Some acts of kindness solve a problem. Others stay with you long after the problem has been forgotten.

While in Fairbanks, Alaska, we met Paul and his adorable dog, Maeve.

Originally from Massachusetts and now living in Fairbanks, Paul works as an auto mechanic and is also a professional wildlife photographer with Man and Dog Photography.

Then his mechanical skills became particularly useful to YOLA. Our skid plate needed new bolts, and Paul generously took the time to install them for us.

When the work was finished, John asked the obvious question: “How much do I owe you?”

Paul’s answer was immediate: “No charge. I’d prefer if you pay it forward.”

Paul, thank you for helping keep YOLA moving, sharing your photography with us and giving us another reminder of the generosity that exists within the traveling community. And Maeve, thank you for the necessary canine supervision.
