Sometimes you meet travelers who have just come from exactly where you’re eventually headed.

At the New Hazelton Visitor Centre in British Columbia, we met the delightful Susu and Nini (@Kombihaus) from Brazil. They had been traveling for approximately 18 months, making their way from Brazil through South and Central America and all the way north to Alaska.

They graciously gave us a tour of their wonderful vintage Volkswagen Kombi, transformed into the perfect little home for two — with a sleeping area, small kitchen and even a combination shower and toilet.

What we appreciated most was their willingness to share what they had learned about the Pan-American Highway, border crossings and roads.

Their biggest vehicle problem after 18 months? One flat tire. One. We’re hoping YOLA wasn’t listening.

Susu and Nini, thank you for welcoming us into your home on wheels and generously sharing your firsthand knowledge. You were heading home. We were just beginning. And for a little while in New Hazelton, our two journeys crossed.
