Patty & Lee

From Shared Tables to a Friendship That Keeps Traveling

Sometimes you meet people once along the road and continue in different directions.

And sometimes, somehow, the road keeps bringing you back together.

Our time with Patty and Lee began over a shared table in Inuvik, Northwest Territories.

What started as a casual conversation over a meal quickly became one of those easy connections where the stories keep flowing and nobody seems particularly interested in ending the evening.

There was something wonderfully memorable about the two of them.

Patty’s distinctive style — her ever-changing hair and tattoos, each with stories of their own — seemed to perfectly match the openness and individuality they both carried onto the road.

We eventually said goodbye and continued on our separate journeys.

But apparently, the road wasn’t finished with us yet.

Our paths crossed again in Fort Nelson, leading to more meals, breakfasts and conversations stretching across restaurant tables.

“Somewhere between Inuvik and Fort Nelson, chance encounters began turning into friendship.”

It was no longer simply about running into fellow travelers.

It was about seeing friends again.

That’s one of the things we’re beginning to love most about traveling this way. You may meet someone hundreds or thousands of miles from home, say goodbye without knowing whether you’ll ever see each other again — and then suddenly find yourselves sitting across another table together somewhere farther down the road.

And this friendship may not be finished yet.

We’re already talking about reconnecting again when our travels eventually bring us to Mexico.

Patty and Lee, thank you. Thank you for the meals, breakfasts, stories, laughter and those wonderfully long conversations that made the miles between our meetings seem much smaller.

We first met as strangers sharing a table in Inuvik.

Somewhere along the road, we became friends planning where we’ll meet next.

Some friendships don’t end when you say goodbye. They simply continue farther down the road.
