Sometimes you meet someone along the road who convinces you to do something you probably never would have done on your own.

At Robert’s Roost Resort in Quesnel, British Columbia, that person was Neil, the campground host.

Neil was one of those wonderfully interesting people you could sit and talk with for hours. Then he mentioned there was going to be karaoke night.

Somehow, Neil convinced Kristi and John to actually get up and sing. Our selection for the grand YOLA musical debut? Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe.”

Were we good? Not particularly. Did we have fun? Absolutely. And when we finished, people actually applauded — whether they were impressed or simply relieved it was over remains unclear.

Neil, thank you for your stories, your encouragement and for convincing us to get up there and have some fun.
